Tyne and Wear Metro has been serving the people of North East England since 1980. Today and every day it transports around 100,000 customers to and from work, school, university, on days out and to visit friends and family. Metro has 60 stations linking local people to Newcastle city centre, Sunderland city centre, Newcastle International Airport, our wonderful coastline, top sporting venues and hundreds of visitor attractions.

With Tyne and Wear Metro, you can enjoy a fantastic Take the Kids for Free price promise which allows three children to travel for free with a fare paying adult. Plus, with a Pop Pay As You Go card customers can enjoy the easiest and cheapest way to pay for single and day trips.

Tyne and Wear Metro is introducing a new £362m train fleet which will transform the journey experience for its 35 million customers every year. Look out for new trains arriving in 2023.
